When we went looking for an addition to our French language team in 2009, we had a checklist. Some of the things were pretty standard—university studies in translation, hands-on experience, solid writing skills. But others were what we call the “Anglocom intangibles”—broad and varied interests, an open and creative mind, a global outlook. Maxime Carpentier met every requirement.
A Laval and Concordia graduate in social sciences and translation, Maxime had been giving us a hand freelance for much of the previous year. We appreciated his simple, yet elegant style that showed his love of literature and journalism. We also noted how faithful his translations were to the original English—no doubt a reflection of the two years he had spent in England honing his language skills. And now that Maxime is a full-fledged member of the team, we’re glad to share his abilities with our valued clients.
